Pengerupukan day takes place every 420 days, which is on the ninth dark moon of Bali’s lunar calendar. It is a day when every village on Bali will do sacrification rituals to neutralize the negative energy.
It usually takes place on the main crossroad of the village which is believed to be the zero spot of the balance. The negative energy which is represented as Evil will be invited and assembled, the youths will create a figure of evil or giants for months as the negative energy symbol. They will carry the figure of evil or giants around the village to invite all negative to the centre of rituals where they will be peaced or be neutralized in order to not disturb the peacefulness of the people’s life. The Pengerupukan is done one day before the Saka new year or The Silent Day where Balinese people do four prohibitions to appreciate the nature as well as to do self-control for one day (24 hours) starting from 6 am to 6 am of the next day.
