From Bishkek, Capital of Kyrgyzstan, to the dreaming sceneries of the lake of Song Köl, from Orto Tokoy, a reservoir of turquoise water in the Kochkor District, up to Issik Kul, UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and Karakol, with its canyons, wild parks and colourful markets. The seams of the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, drawn by a gentle black pencil, the white sand that embrace alpine lakes lashed by the September breeze, create a magnificent sight that leaves you breathless. On a night out in New York, a man reflects upon lost love.

I spent a great weekend with friends in a cottage in North Karelia in Finland. We played Finnish folk game Mölkky, fried pancakes, went to the sauna, as well as enjoyed being together and picturesque landscape. Special thanks to my friends: Anni, Emilia L., Salla, Henna, Emilia S., Tuomo and Jussi The whole video was shot completely handheld on my new mid-range mirrorless camera Sony A6300.

The Maynard School relaunched their brand with a digital, print and cinema campaign ‘Made for Girls’. This 40” cinema commercial was mirrored by a YouTube pre-roll and social media campaign. Strong imagery working in tandem with a voice over drive the narrative. During the 4-day shoot some scenarios were set up for logistical reasons, but we wanted the scenes to feel honest so filmed actual lessons (in brief 30-minute slots to minimise academic disruption). Logistically challenging for producer/director Jason Purvis and the team at the school – but it all came together, and we’re dead chuffed with the result.

This short doc is part of a series of small films that we developed for the Kingston Accommodation Partners in Kingston, Ontario. This short profiles Marney McDiarmid on her creative process, and why she chooses Kingston as her home. We developed the shooting style, using a combination of handheld and lens whacking. FilmConvert allowed us to get the rough film look we wanted in the end. ***We used two film stocks. IL FN FP and FJ 8543 VD to get the contrasting looks.***

Last Fall, on a crisp autumn evening in Oct, I had the pleasure of capturing Meghan & Matthew Rhoades wedding at Oxon Hill Manor in Maryland. Working alongside talented photog, Kate Palker, and her great stable of shooters from Pearly Kate Photography, I was able to record every milestone of the big day. Running the show was Tori from Candy + Company, making sure the whole event came together perfectly. Last but not least, Meghan and Matthew's friends and family came out in full force to support their loved ones. And the trailer above is mere snapshot of the love and affection that went into making such a lovely day possible.

Is a photograph just a representation of existence in a moment that can never be relived again? Or is it a moment in time that stays connected to us through our emotions? What if it was a time portal to a moment long passed, and yet still existing, a moment in which we become the bystanders to our own lives.

Merve & Nils and their Elopement in Scotland

My trip to Mexico city.

The film takes place in a modern, but completely empty, apartment. We watch each member of the band in short scenes portraying everyday life, in a very minimalistic environment. One is in the bath, another is reading a book, another is getting dressed, another is chopping vegetables in the kitchen. They are expressionless and almost lifeless. The music gathers momentum and these moments of everyday life seem to be shaken by the following, unexpected, events. Party guests invade the apartment as the worlds of inertia and life collide, and little by little mayhem ensues. — For this music video I spent 1 day writing the script, 2 days shooting, and 2 days editing. This video was a very quick project, but it shows that with practice, and Filmconvert plugin, anything is possible.

This is a follow up post to show how our Moonlight video looked like after it had been color graded. There were a handful of requests form viewers asking us to upload a graded version. We graded it with FilmConvert in Adobe Premiere Pro using the Sony A7s camera pack, Slog2 - S Gamut Profile, and the FJ 8553 ET FilmConvert Stock.

It was amazing to see how much color the A7s was able to bring out once we applied the Slog2 - S Gamut Profile to the clips. We desaturated the final grade to keep the moonlight feel.

Sometimes inspiring others to conservation starts with the simple act of giving them a place to walk. That's one of the driving forces which compelled Matthew Christiansen to spend this past summer digging trenches, cutting overgrowth, and maintaining the vast network of trails in the Monongahela National Forest located in West Virginia. In partnership with the Student Conservation Association and the U.S. Forest Service, Matthew set out to make his mark on the very lands which helped inspire his path to the study of environmental science. But as it goes with the outdoors, Matthew soon discovered the deeper truths of how a simple shovel and a pickaxe can move others to action.

Over a year ago, Music & Arts began developing its very first brand commercial. With big ideas and little resources, we kept circling back on the phrase "Hold On." To us, in relation to music, it had multiple meanings. On one hand, it was quite literal: Hold on to your instrument. On the other hand, it was wonderfully etherial: Once music takes hold of your life...hold on! Music changes everything. Satisfied with both meanings, we set out to tell that story using only hands. Over the course of 4 weeks, we were fortunate enough to shoot at a multitude of Music & Arts retail locations, with a handful of music students at Berkeley Springs Highschool in WV, and at the prestigious Strathmore Music Center in Bethesda, MD. Finally, bookending the piece, is a simple story of a father, a daughter, and the power of holding on to one's very first musical instrument. Not only does music change everything. It enriches as well.

This was sort of a spoken letter to my kids from their mother. As we where expecting our third child, we figured it would be nice to make something for our children

My Brothers' Blood is a project aimed at championing manhood through stories, photos and film. The goal is to shine a new light on what it takes to be a man through individual stories; to empower men through shared communication; and to support a healthy, balanced idea of manhood and masculinity through community. My grand-aunt Mimi asked if I could help her share the story of her life. Something like this is impossible to give justice in an 8 minute piece, but all I can hope is that the enormous amount of life that she had in her soul is apparent to all of those who watch this. I was fortunate to be able to finish the film and travel back to Washington in early July to show the film to Mimi at her beloved cabin on Whidbey Island. Unfortunately, a little over a month later Mimi had a sudden illness followed by a stroke with several complications, she passed away on September 26th, 2016. In this moment, Mimi would prefer us celebrate her life, rather than be saddened by her death. So, here's to Mimi! I hope this film encourages those who see it to take a moment and capture a story from one of their elders on whatever media is available. The worth of these stories is invaluable and life can take sudden, unexpected turns. Love you Mimi.
