This one is all about hipster culture. The narrative is people magically walking out of a dark room into various places- a trailer, a parking lot, a field, a city street. Color helped us define a location and time of day, from dawn to dusk, and differentiate between the different locations and storylines. The blacks are lifted, the shadows are tinted and grain is added to create an analog, warm feeling and the entire piece feels airy, organic and free flowing. Our references were the Instagram/VSCO esthetic- each scene was actually matched to a reference frame from the director’s Instagram feed, producing variety and color contrast between scenes, and eye-pleasing imagery. Each scene uses a complimentary color scheme- my favorite one being the royal violet/yellow of the field.

This music video by the pop duo Mechatronics was DOP by me, i also did the grading and the eyes. FilmConvert was used in Premiere for the grading.

The film takes place in a modern, but completely empty, apartment. We watch each member of the band in short scenes portraying everyday life, in a very minimalistic environment. One is in the bath, another is reading a book, another is getting dressed, another is chopping vegetables in the kitchen. They are expressionless and almost lifeless. The music gathers momentum and these moments of everyday life seem to be shaken by the following, unexpected, events. Party guests invade the apartment as the worlds of inertia and life collide, and little by little mayhem ensues. — For this music video I spent 1 day writing the script, 2 days shooting, and 2 days editing. This video was a very quick project, but it shows that with practice, and Filmconvert plugin, anything is possible.

The artist sent me an early mix of this track while I was on the road. I listened to the song for an hour straight, and had really vivid shots already in my head from the song and knew we had to give it an old-style treatment like this. I wanted a subtle and almost haunting narrative, set underneath beautiful southern-summer imagery. The artist was totally on board and let me follow my own vision for it. I love how it came out, and I really hope you enjoy it! This was a really intimate shoot- I shot and put everything together myself with no crew, and almost no artificial lighting. Props were made by hand, and actors were all volunteers. We shot this over a few different days here in the Nashville, TN area. Everything was shot on the Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4.6K with Sigma Art 18-35 and 50-100 1.8 zooms. Graded and edited in Resolve using Filmconvert!

After 5 years since their Fat Beats full length debut, Eternia & MoSS return with "Day & Night". Featured on MoSS's album "Marching to the Sound of My Own Drum", MoSS provides a hypnotizing and haunting sonic backdrop as Eternia struggles between spirit and flesh in her signature soul-excavating style. "Day & Night" explores the war going on inside every person, for "what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do" (St. Paul). The outcome of the battle is left unknown, as Eternia's chorus prays, "Don't let the sun set on me..." Director Ian Johnson cinematically explores themes of darkness vs. light, lust, and the multiplicity of one being. The visuals, as hypnotizing as MoSS's production, also pays homage to MoSS's psychedelic classic rock musicality in the colouring, editing, and aesthetic styling.

For as long as I can remember, I have gotten an incredible amount of inspiration from watching people, especially dancers, perform. Music also is something that pushes me to action, even if I don't know what that action ought to be; it simply compels me to do something. Even though I'm not a dancer or a musician, I wanted to make a little film that could express my love of those things and share it with you. Many many thanks go to Olivia Conlin, who was the dancer in the video as well as the choreographer. She worked so openly and freely with me to make this thing happen, and it was probably the best collaboration I've been a part of. I put her in pretty much every situation a dancer wouldn't want to be in, and she took every scene in stride. Never complaining or giving up; just awesome. The video was filmed entirely in Minnesota over the course of six months. The music is "Revival" by Ryan Taubert, and is licensed from The Music Bed. All rights to the footage are owned by me.

It focuses on accepting someone despite of and because of their flaws which makes them unique. It attempted to remove the stigma associated with mental health issues. It was directed by Shannon McClean & Mark Johnston and Produced by Nathan O'Regan. It was shot on Sony a7sii using Zeiss prime lenses and graded with Film Convert on Final Cut Pro X.
