ALMA year 2014, duration: 6min 18sec. Carolina Morais Fonseca, a portuguese dancer and choreographer. Born in 1981, she travels all around the world teaching and learning Gypsy dances. She started her research of Romany dances with Myriam Szabo and later complemented her training with Ukrainian Petia Lourtchenko, particularly in Russian and Central European Romany dances. She has also studied in India, Transylvania, Budapest and Istanbul. She has performed as a dancer with Fanfare Ciocarlia, Taraf de Haidouks and Roby Lakatos. She is a member of Danza Duende® in Brussels. In this video, Carolina present us her new project / show named ALMA (which means soul). This is not the final version. This music video has African roots- it was shot in an abandoned amusement park in the lowest point on Earth (The Dead Sea), in scorching heat. The use of color is both in controlling the harsh light and changing conditions, as well as in establishing the esthetics and vibe. Color even plays a rhythmic role here, in timed changes on beats- most work was done freestyle and jazzy, following the example of the music. The sun is prominent in setting the mood of this video, and everything is HOT! We went for a vintage, cross-processed look, with the heaviest grain we could muster, and some psychedelic color effects thrown in for good measure. The clean digital imagery was roughed-up to become as grungy and organic as possible, and the video is very high key, up to the point of over-exposure.

This video is an hommage to cinema- Bollywood meets Hollywood. The poor cleaner at the hairdresser’s meets the glamorous filmstar. His scene is emulating 50’s Indian and Arab films- faded, heavy grain, yellow highlights. When the woman of his dreams enters the barbershop, she brings with her a touch of Hollywood glamour- cinemascope, lush colors, and a remapping of the entire color palette- the RGB primaries become CMY, the fading effect is lifted, and the entire tonality emulates the classic film stocks of the 1950’s U.S. The color, in essence, is the story- painting the mundane reality in rich hues.

This was a fun project filmed in my home garage, filmed all on black with some very inexpensive light set-ups. Initially this music video was going to be very different - black & white with cymatic footage I’d filmed the day after comped and overlaid. Playing around with the initial cymatic footage i’d filmed for their band photo i’d found a more interesting creative using simple backwards light particles which for the band conveyed the idea of ‘letting go to begin again’. With only 2x weeks and 80+ effects shots this was a real challenge for just one person but it wouldn’t of looked as great without filmconvert!

This piece of video is stuffed full of bacon and tasty snowboarding, baked together with fabulous landscapes and finally served on your dinner plate with a nice pale ale. A good meal that will make your mind travel back to winter. You could also call this a full part by the Swedish boarder Johan Rosen but thats way more boring.

I've been wanting to make a video with Bizzo for some time and we finally managed to get our schedules lined up on a Sunday to make it happen. We shot for about 2 hours and I slowly did post for about 8 hours.
