Ghosts and Empties is part of a continuing series of films titled Zones of Change, exploring themes surrounding the disjointed development of the Thames Gateway region. Using sound, and moving image to act as a portal to read and experience the landscape, this film explores the Gateway region at night. At night the edgelands come alive. The drab grey exteriors of warehouses become bathed in light, sodium, fluorescent and LEDs, in a shifting hue of yellows, reds, ochre’s, greens and blues. Arterial roads are given over to tankers and ‘artics’, ferrying goods and fuel from giant out of town distribution centres. Boy racers in souped up hatch backs tear apart the still air, bass carrying for miles, engines screaming for respite, wheels screeching for purchase on the damp asphalt. Nightclub patrons are ejected onto the street, bleary eyed and wrestling with gravity, Cigarettes are lit, drinks regurgitated, vivid colours splash. 20 years ago, composer and percussionist Greg Runions put a band together to record a series of tunes inspired by the legendary Kenny Wheeler coming to town for a one-off concert where he would perform with Greg's big band. At the time they only managed to get a demo recording of the show, so 20 years later the band came back together in the studio to lay down the compositions as a complete recording featuring some of Canada's top players in the jazz scene.

Documenting Hatem Kalaoun's story as an immigrant to America, a successful small business owner, and a father, has been a passion project for his son, Abraham, ever since college. For the past three years, we've discussed and imagined how we'd film his dad--we just needed the right opportunity! Finally, when we returned to Rhode Island in July 2018 after living in Georgia for a year and a half, we were able to film at the garage, and also interview Hatem to hear from him firsthand. This is the kind of storytelling we here at Cinema Jubilee LOVE to do 🙂 Shot on the Panasonic Lumix GH5, Panasonic Lumix G85, and DJI Mavic Pro; edited on Premiere Pro using the FilmConvert plugin to color grade. The Hilltown 6 Pottery Tour in the Hilltowns of Western Massachusetts.

HOLLOKO is a Paloc ethnographic village in Hungary/Europe, part of the WORLD HERITAGE. It's name means 'RAVEN STONE' in Hungarian. The village considered the MOST photographed village in Hungary, located approximately 57 miles from Budapest, the capital of Hungary. This remarkable place has traditionally been in habited by PALOC people. PALOC speak an old dialect of Hungarian and have preserved their characteristic architecture and their fold costumes. Recognition of the cultural significance of the settlement was given in 1987 when Holloko was the first village in the WORLD to be added to UNESCO's world Heritage List. The village, which lies in a small valley, has burned down several times ( the last time was back in 1909 ) but each time the inhabitants rebuilt their houses in almost the same shape and forms. A short 3-min doco about the gifted custom moped & bike builders Holy Spokes and their wild bunch of motor heads. I challenged myself to create a documentary without quotes, trying to captures the essence of what makes these motor heads tick without words. During the shoot it struck me that their way of life somehow resembles the 4 stages of life in Hinduism, hence the expression Mopedism in the title. Btw: The bylines of the chapter titles are in slangy Swiss German, translating the English main titles with a slight irony - unfortunately this cannot be adequately translated into English without getting lost in translation.

Home lives inside us depicts the reality of four homeless people through objects that are part of the environment they live in. Seen from a different angle, these objects show what can still be considered “home” in the lives of Aloísio, Marlon, Lenice and Alex. These four citizens are invisible to society, but these objects reveal the desire for humanization expressed in their improvised homes, among a large city’s many adversities With an unpublished text by Tarso de Melo, a distinguished poet of the latest writers’ generation of São Paulo, Home lives inside us is an extremely urban narrative, simultaneously raw and sensitive. In it, objects represent one of contemporaneity’s most serious problems: housing, in a context in which human beings are disposable objects, often invisible.
