A Nina da Lua (Sonia Carmona) le detectaron un sarcoma d’Ewing cuando tenía 31 años. Se trataba de un cáncer óseo muy agresivo que tenía muy mal pronóstico según diversos especialistas por la ubicación (ala ilíaca izquierda) y sus medidas (12 cm aprox).
Desde ese preciso instante Nina decidió dejarse guiar por su propia naturaleza interior para aceptar el proceso y suavizar los crudos efectos de la quimioterapia (8 sesiones) y la radioterapia (30 sesiones). Su único objetivo fue sentirse viva en cada detalle y ese amor transformó su cuerpo.
A los seis meses del proceso Nina no solamente consiguió sanarse. También un hecho poco común: regenerar el hueso que se había abierto a causa del tumor en muy poco tiempo.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to spent a week in Yosemite National Park in the winter of 2013. I hiked to the top of Nevada Fall and Yosemite Falls, filming along the way. It was a very reflective time, where I looked back on all the changes I had made the past year, professionally and personally. Every night before I went to sleep, I would write a little and I wrote this short story inspired by my experiences I had each day. I have always loved experimental narrative, so with the footage I shot, I constructed the story I wrote on the page.

The idea behind Portraits is to base the narrative I write for each actor around them. I interview each actor and then write for them. So in a sense it is part narrative; part documentary - even if the "doco" thread is highly obfuscated.
