Keeping a diary. It’s actually a nice thing to do. Something you undertake for yourself. An act of both letting go and preserving. In “Isolated Crows of Solitude”, Tehran-based director Sahar Soleimani turns such daily personal reporting into a means of surveillance, of repression. People are forced to keep logs of their days. Having their own ideas, discovering their own potential, maturing into individual personalities – these are utopian aims in this dystopian world. Those who rebel against the rules of the totalitarian system are “cured” with a mask. The power of dictatorship? Isolation. Alienation. Solitude. Reza is one of them. And one of them.

By Ebert SteynA short film that combines a heartful story – as mostly told in feature films – with the look and feel of a cinematic high fashion TV commercial. The film was shot over the course of a week in October 2016, under the wonderful warmth of the Andalusian sun in picturesque Spain. The story revolves around a young woman and her two male counterparts, fiercely entangled in a play of reality and imagination – while dressed in Gucci, Jil Sander and Maison Martin Margiela. Two competing motives: desire vs. the pursuit of finding true self. Be cautious, things may not be as they appear!
By Reno MezgerTears In The Rain, the award-winning South African sci-fi short by filmmaker Christopher Grant Harvey, is an unabashed love letter to the 1982 motion picture 'Blade Runner', and Philip K. Dick's novel 'Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?' Set in Los Angeles in the latter part of the twenty-first century, the short stars Sean Cameron Michael as John Kampff, a mysterious law enforcement official who is tracking down a man named Andy Smith (Russel Savadier), who is suspected of being a replicant: an artificial being almost indistinguishable from humans. With its haunting, 80s-inspired synthesized score, futuristic Los Angeles cityscape complete with flying cars, looming ultra-skyscrapers, and neon-haloed, grime covered streets, Tears In The Rain convincingly duplicates the dark dystopian aesthetic of Blade Runner.
