It was the 60th anniversary of actor James Dean's death on September 30, 2015. So, I journeyed from California to Indiana for a few days last year at the end of September to celebrate his life.

Up until a few ago, all that I knew about nurses was that they were nice people that worked in hospitals. Because I dislike nothing more than getting sick or injured I actively avoided hospitals, and thereby most nurses. This all changed when Texas A&M University's College of Nursing reached out to me about filming a promotional video showing why nurses are awesome, and more importantly, why Aggie nurses are the absolute best. Since both my wife and I are Aggies, of course we jumped at the chance to revisit College Station, eat tacos at Fuego, and film something special for the College of Nursing. My fears of hospitals were put aside as we filmed nurses in training, forensic nurses, nurse classes, and even a flight nurse. Poveglia has had a VERY tumultuous history. Its first residents arrived in 421 AD after trying to escape the barbaric invasions of Venice and around the 9th century, the tiny island became densely populated and grew in importance. It later became the turf on which many wars were fought against the barbarians and while most were won, Poveglia's residents had to be permanently displaced in 1379 by the Venician government so it could fortify and use the island to counter the attacks of the Genoans. When the bubonic plague hit Venice in 1348, Lazzarettos (quarantine centers) were established on many small islands including Poveglia to try to contain the pandemic. The Black Death revisited Venice in 1462, 1485, 1506, 1575-1577, and 1629-1631. The 1629-1631 outbreak ended up being the deadliest with an estimated 80,000 deaths in just seventeen months. The Maynard School relaunched their brand with a digital, print and cinema campaign ‘Made for Girls’. This 40” cinema commercial was mirrored by a YouTube pre-roll and social media campaign. Strong imagery working in tandem with a voice over drive the narrative. During the 4-day shoot some scenarios were set up for logistical reasons, but we wanted the scenes to feel honest so filmed actual lessons (in brief 30-minute slots to minimise academic disruption). Logistically challenging for producer/director Jason Purvis and the team at the school – but it all came together, and we’re dead chuffed with the result.

For years this has been Venice's countryside, the agricultural zone which produces the fruit and vegetables consumed by the hungry city. Among its produce, particularly renowned are the artichokes (carciofi). The landscape is flat, and dotted with farms and rural small-holdings. It couldn't be more different from Venice, whose bell-towers and churches can be seen on the skyline.

This was produced in 2016 for New Zealand Rugby as part of their positive sideline behaviour initiative called 'Applaud'. In the style of a film trailer (there is no movie...yet). The goal was to show how great rugby was (this was a real under 12 game - not contrived) and then contrast it with something negative from a parent on the sideline. The Filmconvert grade (FJSuper X 400/KD 5213 Vis3) was instrumental in hammering home the mood change.
