This summer I took the opportunity to make with my girlfriend and family a four-day trip to Edinburgh, Scotland.

For me it was more a trial-trip. on another occasion I will spend more time in Scotland, because in the short time I have not seen to much of the country. Anyway we enjoyed every minute including making Scottish Tattoos (I was spared), lots of whiskey, Guinness and good food (Haggis).

we spent three days in the city and walked from one end to the other. for one day we rented a car to see something of the scottish nature and surroundings. The whole short-trip was wonderful.

I wanted to travel with a compact Rig and do all Hand-held with Slow Motion settings and Fake Dolly-Jib movements. This movements were filmed only by hand, no tripods, no Dollys & Jibs were used but a little of stabilization work in post.

I shot some short clips of the car known as the "Freak". It's owned by eGarage co-founder Nick Jimenez. Located in Redwood City, Ca. I used FCPX to edit and FilmConvert to grade the footage and give it a look. I also used MotionVFX's mFlare.

This video is very graphic in its use of color- the exterior night scenes, shot with available light on Tel Aviv, contrasted with the studio scenes, shot on a background of solid colors. The Colors of the various sets were shifted and graded to establish a complimentary color scheme (especially on the Blue-Orange axis), and the flares induced by the vintage anamorphic lenses were enhanced and simulated to match across scenes. Cutting between the colors adds punch to the piece, while the flares and digital re-lighting tie it together. The night shots were tracked and graded to direct the viewer's eye to the cyclist, and the wardrobe and props in each studio set were highlighted and refined. This one is all about fun!

This intro clip is an extract from 'Elision' (Drama, UK, 2014, 15'16"), a narrative short film co-produced, co-directed, shot, and edited by Christian Schmeer & Joe Mania. The film was shot using two Blackmagic Cinema Cameras, as well as a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and was colour graded using Kodak Vision 3 5207 and 5213 stock emulation through FilmConvert OFX for Davinci Resolve.

Synopsis: Nathan has his life structured and arranged just as he likes, yet he is lonely. Polly, a neighbour, is his ideal partner – sweet and affectionate, with a penchant for science and history. When Nathan realises she is not the woman he had imagined, he retreats from the overbearing truth of the situation.

Erin and Greg had such a positive attitude towards the rain on their wedding day. After packing up all of my equipment, the rain picked back up and gave me the urge to get creative. I set up a light outside (covered with a plastic bag), went back inside and told them to "trust me". A few months later when I delivered the film, Erin wrote in her review: "One of my favorite moments from the wedding was when Houston pulled us aside and told us an idea he had - to shoot us slow dancing in the rain. The end product of his idea is something we will cherish forever. Taking time to soak (literally) everything in, to slow down, and dance in the storm with my husband was truly magic and defined the evening for us."

Isabel is four years old when she makes her first dance moves in her pink tights and leotard. From that moment on her days are filled with dance and ballet. Now, almost twelve years later, there is happiness but also a deeper desire to dance professionally one day.

Isabel is 15 years old and in the third year of HAVO/VWO for Music and Dance (HMD) Codarts in Rotterdam. In addition to her regular courses, she follows at least 20 hours of dance lessons per week. She works long days and so far, has travelled 3.5 times around the world by bus and train to her dance training already. And this is just the beginning.

Every morning at half past seven Isabel gets on the bus. That’s the beginning of her one and a half hour daily journey to Rotterdam. She works hard for her big dream every day!

The crowds at the shows are not what they used to be, but jaded Datarock lead singer Rock-Steady Freddy still puts a diligent effort into show preparations, meticulously ironing his trademark red tracksuit. Though many a time he has pondered if it is him is wearing the suit, or if the tracksuit is wearing him. This film is one of two prequels shorts for Datarock's 'Laugh in the face of Darkness' music video.

Stig 'the Mystical Casio operator' is back in the band! He won't even take of his uniform when going to bed, he's so happy. But he does brush his teeth, of course; they are his most valuable assets. (This film is the second of two prequels for Datarocks 'Laugh in the face of Darkness' music video)

'Faces of Fall' is a small project I did while working on my aerial cinematography skills. I am a filmmaker based in Lübeck getting more and more into aerial cinematography and photography. I am the kind of guy who needs projects like these and the burning desire that comes with them to get out and realise my ideas instead of just practicing movements over and over again. Getting a cinematic shot with a drone takes a quite some practice - not just the seamless flying part but also finding a good and interesting framing while having only 20 minutes of battery-time up in the air. I came up with the subject of fall and the roughness and beauty that comes with it all showcasing nature around Lübeck, Germany. Unfortunately I did not have the time to cover all facets (like storm and rain - but that would not have been able with the Phantom 4 anyway) - but I think I got lucky with the beautiful ones. In that time they have seen huge changes in their neighbourhood, and profound changes in the way local people shop for essentials. From humble beginnings selling cigarettes from a window in their family home to a bustling grocery store that served their community, they have seen and felt the rise of supermarkets and convenience stores and the impact that has had on their livelihood. Here they tell their story of how it started, what keeps them working, and what they will do when they finally retire.
