Sheep Shearing Down Under -World-renowned Roseville Corriedale Rams-

An introduction to the sheep shearing process and the world-renowned fleece of Roseville Corriedales in Kingsvale, NSW Australia. This work is particularly close to heart as I was born and raised just 20 minutes away in the country town of Young, the Cherry Capital of Australia.

Silent witness

"Silent witness" is a silent witness. Wedding of tourist friends. Probably the only real wedding in the world in the mountains, filmed on video. Decor - stones, fresh snow in the morning, wind in the hair and sincere tears of happiness in the circle of the closest people. Banquet - songs with a guitar around the fire with a warm cup of fragrant tea with the smell of thyme collected from the slopes around.

Solid Form

earth - air + water + force / rotation x fire = solid form Kelli shared this formula with us before we collaborated on a visual portrait. We wanted to showcase Kelli's process through a meditative stream-of-consciousness. The process of thinking is taking a malleable substance: a clump of thought, and shaping it. It solidifies mid-process into a shape, perfect and imperfect, unique and personal. Kelli's style is simple, beautiful and speaks for itself. These are our (in)complete thoughts in response. Solitude

A short film exploring a concept of tranquility through solitude. Shot in late September on a very windy beach in South Wales whilst taking a break.
The late afternoon light was very flat with the distance shots full of sea haze, I got the feeling of not being present yet observing private isolated moments.
I've left the film purposely grainy with very little post except for using Film Convert to unify the grain quality across all shots and to apply a film stock to the whole sequence (FJ Ast100)

Somewhere Joshua Tree

Somewhere Joshua Tree has a collection of stunning and unique Airbnbs around the Joshua Tree area and they wanted a brand video that captured the feeling their guests have when visiting the desert. They asked us to create a short film that included new footage we shot for them as well as using some existing footage from our weddings and elopements in Joshua Tree (with the couples’ permission, of course!) It’s been a while since we shot a commercial project and we loved getting to shoot here and show off the beautiful desert where we live. Graded with FilmConvert.

I shoot a lot of weddings every year, and this one was one I really got down and dirty with using film convert, I gotta say film convert gives you the chance to get some looks that are almost impossible without it, mostly, I love it for the possibility to really dial in the skin tones and create a pleasing look that feels natural, and organic, which can be hard to achieve on a digital medium sometimes.

Stories from Silk Island - Trailer

A trailer for Stories from Silk Island. A short distance from the frenetic capital city of Cambodia, Koh Dach - or Silk Island - is its own world of farmers and floodplains; silk weavers and shortfall. It is here that EmbraceAbility has made its home, providing services aimed at empowering children with disabilities and their families to lift themselves from poverty, promoting their dignity and independence so that they may participate fully in their communities. Stories of Note presents Stories from Silk Island, a series of films that looks candidly into the eyes of Koh Dach children and into the minds of their parents, giving unique insight into a life unlike ours, and a journey with EmbraceAbility towards equality and inclusivity.

Summer Of Love

Somewhere near Vasquez Rocks, a camper van unleashes a group of revelers chasing a Summer Of Love. At least that’s the vibe the director, Randal Kirk II, was hoping to capture with his latest branded piece for clothing company Night:Shift Goods. Tears In The Rain

Tears In The Rain, the award-winning South African sci-fi short by filmmaker Christopher Grant Harvey, is an unabashed love letter to the 1982 motion picture 'Blade Runner', and Philip K. Dick's novel 'Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?' Set in Los Angeles in the latter part of the twenty-first century, the short stars Sean Cameron Michael as John Kampff, a mysterious law enforcement official who is tracking down a man named Andy Smith (Russel Savadier), who is suspected of being a replicant: an artificial being almost indistinguishable from humans. With its haunting, 80s-inspired synthesized score, futuristic Los Angeles cityscape complete with flying cars, looming ultra-skyscrapers, and neon-haloed, grime covered streets, Tears In The Rain convincingly duplicates the dark dystopian aesthetic of Blade Runner.

TEHRAN THRICOLAGE

One moment it seems you can grasp them, the next they slip away. The works of Mehdi Behbudi, sound artist from Tehran, oscillate between abstraction and the sounds of everyday life. Behbudi, together with Iranian poet Vahide Sistani and Hamburg-based video artist Felix Lübbert, created this piece for a change of perspective on our daily life. “Tehran Thricolage”, one of the collective’s first video installations, shows rare drone footage of bustling squares and traffic junctions in Tehran. In the background, Sistani’s detailed poems can be heard floating gently above Behbudi’s streetlife-inspired sound-art.

The Americano | Chef Scott Conant

Soul. What began as an opportunity to create a simple restaurant menu sizzle reel turned into something so much more. We spent two days with world renowned Chef Scott Conant in an intimate setting, capturing him in his element at The Americano, his new Italian-inspired steakhouse in the heart of Scottsdale, AZ. We learned a valuable lesson when landing this once in a lifetime gig with Scott: When you have the opportunity to speak with someone about their craft, whatever it may be, it’s important to take the time to really dig deep and discover what pushes them to show up every day and push for their very best. And with this project, we did just that.

The Ballot or the Bullet | An American Portrait

As a Canadian traveling through Baltimore and Washington during the time of the Trump election, I noticed a lot of things that stood out to me. The anger, aggression and divide between the political parties, the extremely evident racial separation and the stark contrast between the rich and the poor. These things were all incredibly prominent as we drove through the streets of these cities. I wanted to create a video that would not only show this, but also deliver a message that to me, all this divide and anger does not make any sense. In the world that we live in today, we need more love and compassion, we need more understanding for each other and we need to make a change.

By Nick Schafer
