Rest is a music project collaboration from New Zealand artists Benjamin Murray and Neil MacLeod. The lyrics circle around the idea of a progressing relationship between two people. The inevitability of change in a relationship is certain and the 'honeymoon' phase always comes to an end. How does it feel when reality hits and life returns back to the frame-to-frame? Last year, we visited a theme park celebrating America’s mythic Wild West in wintery Sweden that became a welcoming home for refugees fleeing the Syrian civil war: vimeo.com/melfilms/highchaparral As strange as that sounds, this was a pretty good deal for about 500 people looking to start a new life. But with global political winds shifting toward isolationism, the Wild West response to a refugee crisis only lasts so long. We went back to see how the West was lost.

The Polis Litoral Ria de Aveiro arose from an unprecedented convergence of desires. Then, plans of rehabilitation, recovery and gentrification of all this vast territory followed.

And there it is, Ria de Aveiro: Environmentally preserved and economically vibrant, offering multiple experiences.

It inspires us to gaze upon it, relax and feel...

To celebrate the release of Petrichor's second album, Narisshu, we wanted to create a very simple looking, one-take music video that every time the camera looks away, the setup builds. The video was filmed inside what is now subSine | Academy of Electronic Music in Glasgow just before it was built into so we had a very tight window in which we could film the video. We came up with the concept, built the set, filmed and dismantled everything within a 12 hour period with a core team of 3 (and a few extra helpers during filming) and almost no budget. Episode 5 of Rough Hands took me on a roadtrip from Brisbane to the ACT, to meet Karim Haddad. A CEO turned bladesmith, who now runs a nationally acclaimed knifemaking business and training academy. Karim invited me to stay on his property where I camped in my van and took in the amazing landscape and sense of peace that Tharwa Valley offers. One of the reasons I love creating this series is that I get the chance to travel around the country, spend time with, and pick up wisdom from other creators. The conversations I had with Karim were incredibly eye opening for me. One quote that stood out for me during his interview, really echoed the way I feel about being a filmmaker and creator: “People often talk about work life balance, and I think that’s the wrong way to describe it. It’s about life balance. I work very hard here, I work a lot of hours here, but it’s consistent, and my life is consistent. I’m not doing a day job that I spend my weekends escaping from. Whilst Rio de Janeiro is renowned for its carnival, Latin America has a range of distinctive carnivals and traditions, often inspired by political history. Candombe is a Uruguayan form of cultural expression with roots in colonial slavery. Originating as a parody and mockery of slave masters, it is a proud statement of rebellious spirit and freedom, and an important celebration of Afro-Latino culture and pride. Samburu Moran is a comparsa (candombe troupe) from the small town of Fray Bentos on the Argentine Uruguayan border. Having qualified to compete at Montevideo Carnival for the first time the film captures their preparation and parade performance as they compete against 45 comparsas from across the nation.
