Music video with FilmConvert

This is an entry in the FilmConvert Cinematography competition for 2015. Genre: documentary.

It was filmed at Port de Dinan and along the River Rance in Brittany in France.

The film was shot using a Sony FS100 camera, part hand-held and part mounted on a Manfrotto video monopod. It was edited in FCP X and colour-graded using FilmConvert. The music, "Dead Horse", was composed by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.

Canon Switzerland were kind enough to lent me the Canon EOS RP for my last trip to Japan, to make some few tests. I shot this piece during my two weeks vacation, between Tokyo, Kamakura and Kyoto. Sydnie is a model and friend of mine who I couldn’t get ahold of for almost eight months. When she finally resurfaced, it was with a story of a deeply affecting relationship, and of the strength it took to find herself again. Sydnie always struck me as so confident, and quick, and funny, and it was moving to hear how vulnerable she had been. We made this wee micro-documentary as a way to celebrate her and her return.

May be it was their love, may be it was the fun loving family & friends, may be it was the beautiful weather; I do not know but there was something special about Ketti & Arpit's wedding day. I am saying this because I had lots of energy when we starting shooting at 5.30AM and I had same energy when we stopped shooting at 12.00AM. I show three things on that day around me: Love, Fun and Energy. This wedding is the perfect example of why we love to do Indian Wedding Cinematography.

When I talked to Ketti first time, I could here in her voice that it is going to be something different and challenging. Ketti & Arpit wanted something different for their SDE (Same Day Highlights) so we decided to do short shoot prior to the wedding day. This film is an intimate exploration of my Dad's obsession with college football during a single Notre Dame season. When making this film I wanted to explore his motivations behind tradition, passion and ritual. What starts out as a simple documentation turns into a character study. Throughout this study I was able to explore our father/son connection and how football has been a main source of bonding between us. This project has allowed to me to have a greater respect for what people choose to be passionate about and how that passion affects the people around them. What resulted is a film that is a dedication to sports fans, Dads, or both.

A short documentary about one artist's response to the gun violence epidemic in the USA.

This young man from Tamale, Ghana has a lot on his mind. His reflections about life in Africa is precise and the story about how a childhood memory about the amazing Spiderman influenced his life and almost became a self-fulfilling prophecy. His ambition to success is no different than in our western world, but maybe harder?

The soccer field where we meet Maccarthy could easily be a metaphor for life in Ghana; a lot of obstacles, bumpy and full of rocks. But that does not discourage them. The soccer training is about more than just keeping fit it is a way to socialise and network which is very important in that part of the world. As Maccarthy says “ Things do not come easy in my part of the world - you have to struggle a hundred procent ” Maccarthy is this young compelling man with a lot on his mind.

In the shadow of Yosemite National Park, the oldest and youngest crew members of a historic steam railroad reflect on their passion for their craft and its future in an uncertain world. The Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad in Fish Camp, CA has operated tourist trains on two miles of track in the Sierra National Forest since 1967. Joseph Bispo and Diego Morales are two of the crew members whose passion for steam-powered railroading keeps the YMSPRR running day after day, year after year. Their personal histories, the challenges they've faced and overcome, and their dedication to the trade are the heart of this film.

Originally intended as a demo reel, this project slowly morphed into a short about the many stories we pass by, and encounter in our daily lives.

The Vault is a Post-Apocalyptic / Sci-Fi story about a ragtag group of survivors living in an underground military base known as the Vault. Buried 5 miles beneath the earth, this state-of-the-art facility is humanity's only remaining home.

Martin Riese is a water sommelier, which, despite what your brain might be telling you right now, is a real thing. Riese is perhaps the most well known of a very small pool of water sommeliers around the world who have made a profession of tasting, analyzing, judging, and ultimately spreading the good word about the many different flavors of water our tastebuds have been missing out on. For this film, we followed Martin from his home at the Patina Restaurant in Los Angeles to the first of its kind water competition and trade show in Guangzhou, China. Why? “Because water is not just water.”

Our friend Jes is a talented photographer who happens to be a beekeeper on her spare time. She asked us if we wanted to come and film her bees. We then decided to turn this into a little doco. This was originally prompted by the fact that bees were recently declared the most important living beings on this planet. Thus was filmed in the Blue Mountains, close to Sydney, Australia.

A collection of clips shots with Sony Rx100 M4 along my trip to Ecuador, Colombia, Panamà. I used often the slow motion capability of the Wonderful Sony rx100 Mk 4, 90% at 240 fps, in 2 occasion (the hummingbirds shots) at 480 fps with sharpening applyied in post. Editing in FCPX, Color grading almost always with Filmconvert. Music by Kevin Macleod.

Some friends and I stopped through Coober Pedy on a road trip to Alice Springs, I'd never seen such bizarre landscapes before.

Patrick Bracelin has been my best friend since college. We did an initial interview with Patrick which quickly turned into, what I would consider, one of my favorite things I've captured on video.

We made the haul to Phoenixville, PA from the DC area for the additional shots we wanted to lay over the video that we had already edited featuring Patrick's interview. This is one of the first interviews I've ever done, and topping this experience will be quite the challenge in the foreseeable future.

Patrick still rides and plans on riding as much as possible. The only difference being either on a track or in the woods now that all of his street bikes have been sold. Bad habits don't have to define your passion. Do what you love even if it may kill you. Life is short, make it count.

In Cold War-times, Cuba racked up a debt with what was then called Czecholslavakia. Since then, the Soviet Union collapsed, Czechoslovakia became the Czech Republic, and Cuba stood frozen in time. That Soviet-era debt survives though, and negotiations have recently surfaced for Cuba to repay that debt in rum. According to The Guardian, 130 years worth. Of rum. That’s a fun story, right? We thought so too. So we went to Cuba to tell it, and learned that you can’t just make a puff piece in an active military dictatorship.

Follow a group a person's with disabilities, along with volunteers and family members, as they travel to Romania to inspire and share what their lives look like with the hope that by doing so, they will be helping to make the world a better place for others with developmental challenges. This Is How Change Happens: One Person One Gesture One Moment at a Time Even though Romania is a developed nation, its attitudes toward people with disabilities lag about 50 years behind those in British Columbia. There are very few services there, and those that do exist have a largely institutional model.

A cheese-maker’s recipe and process is a closely-guarded secret. Internationally renowned Quicke’s contacted me under a veil of secrecy and told me of the imminent launch of their new-recipe clothbound cheese. The introduction of a new ingredient, Cornish Sea Salt, was a really big deal. In close collaboration with Quicke’s I created ‘This Land’ a poetry-driven brand film and a series of four recipe films with Cornwall chef Ben Quinn. The content series is designed to knit together the fabric of the Quicke’s and Cornish Sea Salt brands to celebrate and promote this ‘new wave’ in cheese making.

This is a visual poetry based on 3 different poems. It was inspired by the 5 daily prayers of Ramadan and by Alice in wonderland. It explores the feeling of love through the possible co-existence of several parallel versions of our universe. Filmed in Marrakech and the desert of Agafay in anamorphic format with the Iscorama 1.5x lens on the Zeiss Biotar 58mm f2.0 taking lens. Parts of Traditional Arabic poems were used combined with the poem "If you Forget Me" by Pablo Neruda. Graded with FJ8563RL film emulation in FilmConvert
