Within the week of posting, my NYC test run of the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera went north of 3k playbacks, seeming sensible now to complement with a split-screen comparison of the untouched footage straight from the camera, alongside that finished product after color correction/grading. I have no delusions of being a studio auteur, who could justify a braggart director's commentary, but after thinking about the option to write a long, wordy blog post, I figured it's easier and better all-around just to talk over my footage. It's a visual medium anyway, and I'm sort of surprised there aren't more of these. Would love to see yours, too.

On August 29, there were just a handful of Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras (BMPCs) in circulation, but I managed to get one. That weekend, I took a visit to New York City as my occasion to break it in. Manhattan has been a limitless source of inspiration for people far more talented than me, but the Blackmagic technology, coming to market in such a versatile size, invited this cinematic tone poem which might, even so, look different. Instead of creating something like a tourism video, I wanted to try and capture the human energy of the city that New Yorkers themselves know best, driven by the extraordinary music of Richard Danielpour that I came across recently (ringing in my head all weekend as I captured these shots).

Ngelawang performed by a group of children with Barong paraded around the village and accompanied by Gamelan Ngelawang is a tradition in the celebration of the feast Galungan and Hari Raya Kuningan in Bali. Ngelawang derived from the gates (doors) which means ngelawang is staging conducted from house to house and from village to village using bangkung barong (a barong pig figure). This tradition aims to drive out evil spirits and protect the population from outbreaks or diseases caused by spirits (bhuta kala). At the time lasted ngelawang, the homeowner will provide the money as haturan. Ngelawang derived from the mythological goddess Ulun Danu who turns into a giant who helps the villagers do evil spirits. Once this ritual is a sacred rite so if barong scattered feathers, then people will pick it up and make it as auspicious objects. Now, ngelawang made art show presented by the children.

"Nirbak Valobasha" is a love story. The full film is silent. Here is a boy named "Abir" who falls in love with a girl named "Neela". The girl is dumb. When Abir noticed that he got pain but he tries to express his love in another way. And finally, he found Neela and they both can feel their love. The journey begins from there.

From buttering toast to swimming straight to typing quickly on a computer, Ellett has learned to adapt and to look for the positives in life. He now works as the Kansas City Chiefs Assistant Coach while also sharing his experiences as a motivational speaker.

No Assignment is part of the short film series 'Some Call It Home', which explores the world's last wild places with those who call them home. In this piece, we spend a day with Wildlife Photographer Tom Murphy who has been shooting Yellowstone for over 40 years. But assignments aren't his thing, so he's constantly searching for something different to set his work apart.

This is my first short film. It's called No License. I shot, directed, and edited. My good friend wrote it and we got 8 friends together to act and play various parts. We completed everything in less than 60 hours. It was an ordeal but we made it! I graded it with filmconvert and am now wondering what took me so long.

This mini documentary takes a look in to the world of independent film making, and is a must watch for any one involved with, getting started in or just has a passing interest in film making. An alternative title for it could have been "How a couple of guys set up an Oscar nominated production company from nothing." It shows that there truly is "no set path" to success when it comes to film making, although there are a number of important traits, like passion, determination and high standards that certainly do help.

Jon Drever who is the co-founder and co-owner of Grain Media and a friend of mine very kindly let me into his professional world and spoke candily and honestly, allowing me to relive his journey in film making from very humble beginnings to running the extremely successful independent production company Grain Media. Its been an honour to be able to create something that hopefully goes some way to showing this inspirational journey.
