You may recognize some of the locations from the movie Hunger Games with Jennifer Lawrence. In addition to the film, we will kick off the action with the great "Gravel Giveaway". Soul. What began as an opportunity to create a simple restaurant menu sizzle reel turned into something so much more. We spent two days with world renowned Chef Scott Conant in an intimate setting, capturing him in his element at The Americano, his new Italian-inspired steakhouse in the heart of Scottsdale, AZ. We learned a valuable lesson when landing this once in a lifetime gig with Scott: When you have the opportunity to speak with someone about their craft, whatever it may be, it’s important to take the time to really dig deep and discover what pushes them to show up every day and push for their very best. And with this project, we did just that.

As a Canadian traveling through Baltimore and Washington during the time of the Trump election, I noticed a lot of things that stood out to me. The anger, aggression and divide between the political parties, the extremely evident racial separation and the stark contrast between the rich and the poor. These things were all incredibly prominent as we drove through the streets of these cities. I wanted to create a video that would not only show this, but also deliver a message that to me, all this divide and anger does not make any sense. In the world that we live in today, we need more love and compassion, we need more understanding for each other and we need to make a change.

Through first-hand testimony The Bliss of Ignorance investigates South Africa's complex relationship with one of the country's most abundant resources: coal.

With experts predicting the creation of a "sick" generation in the Mpumalanga region (which is home to 12 of the world's largest power stations),this documentary looks at the impact of South Africa's energy policy - particularly the support for Eskom's coal-fired power stations - on public health. In February 2015 energy giants Eskom were granted five years grace from complying with atmospheric emission standards, making this film ever more timely and relevant.

Set against the wider climate change debate, The Bliss of Ignorance highlights how the mining and burning of coal affects the environment; polluting air and valuable water resources in a water-scarce country. In 2012, 17,000 people in Carolina, Mpumalanga were left without water because their local supply was polluted by acid mine drainage. <

I tried something new for the first time ever. Which I suppose is slightly redundant, since anything that is new would thereby be something experienced for the first time... But I digress.

I created a character who recently lost someone and struggled to somehow find a way to move on. It's quite hard separating yourself (me, a super happy person) from a character you're portraying sometimes, which was something I totally didn't expect. It was a great learning experience, and I'd love to create more work like this as I slowly get more and more into video creation/directing.

I'm sorry for creating such a depressing video from out of nowhere, haha, but I just felt moved to do so once it started, and hope that you all enjoy it as much as I did.

The Carver is a narrative short, meaning it was scripted and acted, but in the style of a "maker video," which is a very popular documentary style that explores craft and care and character. I've had a hand in and been inspired by many gorgeous, actual maker videos, crafted themselves by some very talented filmmakers, so this is my way of honoring those. Of course, it was also written in the only way I can, with a touch of irreverence. My thanks to all my mentors who taught me the craft.
