Making music that speaks to and from and for the ghettos, mahragan producers create a world that doesn’t play by the rules of the ones they find themselves in. Their art captures all they come into contact with, from poverty to parties, harsh realities and vivid imaginations, feuds with the government and their friends alike. Bulaq is a snapshot of a group of friends living in one of Cairo’s oldest slums, one that’s more interested in exploring the insides of their minds than examining their outside circumstances.

SmashWerks Films' Director, Smash LeFunk, was approached by A Better Life Foundation, a non-profit organization helping put children through school, to travel to Burkina Faso, one of Africa's poorest countries, to document their journey. ABLF covers uniforms, school supplies, books, basic health care, eyeglasses for poor vision, wheelchairs for those with mobility issues, and they monitor academic progress monthly throughout the school year as well as provide counseling to address any domestic concerns. Smash was humbled and honored to be able to document ABLF's journey, witnessing first hand how impactful their mission is.

This is the true story of Johannes and Luise Honnens of Bremerhaven, Germany. They were a young couple separated by the war. Their only daughter, Anke, was only 8 months old when her father was killed. She grew up in America without ever knowing her father. It wasn't until his letters written from the front lines resurfaced 75 years later before the family learned the truth about their grandfather - a secret his only daughter died without knowing.

The moody McKinney Cotton Mill in McKinney Texas was such a dream to be able to shoot at. The location was gorgeous, moody, and full of rich history. Cami and Sam were stunning and such fun people to spend the wedding day with.

This is just a video I filmed while I was away with some friends at Big River in Victoria, Australia Colour corrected and graded in Premier Pro using FilmConvert. The music is "The Exit" by Lydia

I have been wanting to try colour grading for a long time now but despite having Cinestyle installed for months, I've never fully known how to go about doing it. So after some research I have finally given it a try with my 600D and Cinestyle by Technicolor installed.

Something I noticed is that due to the limited bitrate of the 600D, some footage can be destroyed by compression making it look worse than it did originally but looking online, cameras such as the GH4, Sony A7S don't have this issues thanks to the higher bitrate.

I hope to get my hands on a GH4 eventually and see the difference for myself. Not only that but the internal 4K recording of the GH4 too.

The goal for this short promotional video for Car Star was to attract skilled workers to the small town of St Stephen New Brunswick. The intent was to capture the "vibe" of this beautiful place and to challenge some of the stereotypes people might have about small town Atlantic Canada. The film is meant to feel more like a travelogue than a corporate video. The aesthetic is simple and "rootsy". The FJ SuperX 400 film stock from FilmConvert leant itself perfectly.
