By Alex YoungMy brother bought this sweet Chevrolet Impala from 1971 a while back and ever since we wanted to make a video with it. It's such a beautiful car, that you just have to do something with on film.
We're playing with the idea of creating a longer narrative project with a story and I wanted to test out some shots/styles, mainly driving shots from the outside.
I sort of missed the first wave of the Film Convert hype, but I just bought the Plugin for FCP X and it is really lovely. It takes the Sony FS100 digital look completely out of the image and makes it very organic. I've been playing with different looks, but I quite like the one in this video (Details at the end).
I used the fabulous F&V Lighting Z180s to light my brother inside the car. I used the diffusion filter with the CTO to create a warm hair light and just added some fill from the front to expose him more against the background.
For these shots and the edit, I am rather inspired by the "Supe

BACKGROUND: Last year, when the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera arrived, I made a video to break it in - http://vimeo.com/hpmoon/nyc - and laid down a commentary to share some insights - http://vimeo.com/hpmoon/bmpc. I challenged the camera to known weaknesses, while crafting a fully-formed lyrical piece beyond the abundance of rough tests and demo clips.
With the launch of the Panasonic GH4, we're back to that same moment, seeing no shortage of test runs, but few large-scale works. Getting my early GH4 coincided with a trip to Chicago for a film festival I was in, so after a couple of days getting-to-know, I spent my last day running around the city before

Shree Karni Mata was born in a Chaaran family in Suwap village, Jodhpur in 1387 AD. She was the sixth girl child of her parents. Her paternal aunt who was present at her parent's place was highly disappointed on the birth of another girl child. The aunt gave vent to her ill-concealed feelings by striking the newly born with knuckles. Immediately the striking fingers were impaired. The family members realized that she is an incarnation and called her Karni (the doer).
At the time of the incarnation of Shree Karni Mata, this desert region (Western Rajahstan) was a disturbed area. There were many groups of war lords with small territories under their control. Fear, plunder and loot reigned. Shree Karni Mata identified the Rathore clan of Rajputs and provided them the wisdom and guidance to establish a large kingdom. Bikaner Royal family accepted her as their family deity and sought her blessings before undertaking any major task. Shree Karni Mata is widely worshiped by a large sec

By Kyle LoweOne of the most rewarding and honoring parts of being a wedding filmmaker is when you are hired again and again to film for a family. After capturing her sister’s wedding several years ago and then multiple family functions through the years - Christina and her lovely family brought us back - this time to New York City and the grand-famous Cipriani Wall Street. Teaming up with my lovely and talented wife Vanessa Joy of Vanessa Joy Photography made this a double-treat and twice as nice. I think it’s safe to say that Christina’s father Mario brings the emotion to new heights in this theatrical trailer.

"Almost from the time when Polyphemus walked around Etna, or when Ceres taught the Sicilians the cultivation of grain, to this day, Sicily has been the scene of constant wars and invasions, and intrepid resistance. The Sicilians are a mixture of almost all breeds of the south and north; before sicani Aborigines with Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, and slaves from all over the world, imported to the island because of trafficking or war; then Arabs, Normans, and Italians . The Sicilians, during all of these transformations and modifications, have struggled, and continue to struggle for their freedom ... " Friedrich Engels

A little short I made using the Sony a7S, using nothing but available light.
Captured internally using S-Log2 (for the night scenes) and Cine Gamma 4 w/S-Gamut color (for daytime).
Daylight scenes were shot using around ISO 100-200, while nighttime shots ranged from ISO 3,200-12,800. The low light sensitivity of this camera opens up new doors that were previously shut with other similarly sized camera platforms, and the results are pretty incredible. While I've found that the image tends to get a bit noisy in the dark areas around ISO 12,800 (for my taste), by throwing on your denoising plugin of choice, you can mostly be rid of digital noise and walk away with a clean and detailed image.

"In the the 1920s the movies were still relatively young, and an evolving modernist aesthetic embraced all things new, sleek, fast, and urban. Not surprisingly, a common focus of the cinematic avant-garde during this era was on the power, and excitement of cities. In both Europe and the US, a small genre of films that became know as 'city symphonies' attempted to capture the spirit, uniqueness, and poetry of a city by assembling images of everyday life in that city. These early films and their offsprings often utilized what film historian Bill Nichols has termed the 'poetic mode' of documentary film production--an attempt to move away from the 'objective' reality of a given situation or people in order to grasp at an inner 'truth' that can only be conveyed by poetical manipulations of mood, tone, time,
