Elna Nilsson is a PhD in chemistry and works with combustion physics at Lund (Sweden) University of Technology. But she also has a Scandinavian, European and World Championship title in Thaiboxing. She lives to be in the ring and does not hesitate for a second to work hard on early mornings, late evenings and weekends. This is her story.

While skiing is our main reason for traveling, travel offers us much more than just another powder day. It refreshes our souls by allowing us to be vulnerable and reconnect with the natural world and those who inhabit it.

Filmed primarily in Lebanon, this short documentary explores how Syrian Refugees, and other disadvantaged people, are using a cloud-based tool to securely store documents to share with universities and scholarship agencies. While both men and women of older generations live long lives, women tend to outlive their male counterparts and make it well into their 100s – and Tomi-San is no exception. Unavoidable when you live that long, tragedy entered Tomi’s life when both her son & husband passed away. Tomi found herself in a deep depression. This is the story of how she faced unimaginable hardship and sorrow in her life and in the process broke through barriers beyond her wildest dreams. Film Convert played a role in the final grade as we looked to really bring out the granny's age, frailty, yet paradoxical ruggedness.

Popolo Shoreditch (popoloshoreditch.com/home/) recently celebrated its first birthday and to mark the occasion we made a little film showing a day in the life of this wonderful Italian restaurant. The film was shot over one whole day (16 hours to be precise) and captures the huge amount of work that goes into preparing the food before they even open for business and also the buzzing lunch and evening service at the Michelin Bib Gourmand award winner. The film was shot on a Leica M-P240 with Zeiss Planar 50/2, Leitz 90/2.8 and Voightlander 35/1.4 lenses. Some shots taken with the Leica D-Lux 109. This is a fashion editorial based on the inspiration of North Korea and the idea of Communism. Within this topic, the idea of the contradiction behind the mask that shows the relationship between fakeness and authenticity is the main point for us to think about. Sometimes we all let ourselves to hide behind the camouflage that we built and only show the prettiest side to the others, which may be beautiful, but fake for most of the time.

Episode 5 of Rough Hands took me on a roadtrip from Brisbane to the ACT, to meet Karim Haddad. A CEO turned bladesmith, who now runs a nationally acclaimed knifemaking business and training academy. Karim invited me to stay on his property where I camped in my van and took in the amazing landscape and sense of peace that Tharwa Valley offers. One of the reasons I love creating this series is that I get the chance to travel around the country, spend time with, and pick up wisdom from other creators. The conversations I had with Karim were incredibly eye opening for me. One quote that stood out for me during his interview, really echoed the way I feel about being a filmmaker and creator: “People often talk about work life balance, and I think that’s the wrong way to describe it.
