hailand’s old Muay Thai fighters struggle to preserve their traditional martial art as the nation’s culture continues to be more commercialised. Wisarut Wat Suksiriwararak is an old Muay Thai fighter from Pai in Northern Thailand. He fought in bouts all around Thailand up until his retirement in 1992. He now runs his own gym in Pai, passing down his knowledge of Thailand’s traditional martial art to both locals and visitors from around the world. However, over the past few decades, authentic practices of Muay Thai have slowly being fading away changing as Thailand’s culture has become increasingly commercialised. With a growing impetus on financial incentives and entertainment, is this historic martial art beginning to move away from its proud heritage?

Based on the Nativity story I wanted to capture the strength of Mary who was mocked by people for being pregnant out of wedlock. In the midst of Mary's life no one was there for her but she was strong, courageous, and faithful to God through every moment. I believe women are strong and courageous and carry a burden of being looked down upon daily, looked at as if they are not strong enough, independent enough, or good enough but I believe otherwise. I believe that women will carry us into the future just as Mary did.

When my friend Antoine hired me to shoot commercial work in Utah back in April of this year, I figured this was a golden opportunity to do it. We traveled through the desert in an RV for 7 days, hiked, ran, rode, jumped, screamed and laughed from dawn to dusk; classic indie filmmaking.

With our amazing small crew, most talented high school students and a small girl, we successfully created a deep and heartfelt story from the incredible musician, Cava Menzies. With a 17hr all day shoot by the pacific coast, it was freezing, tiring but fully inspired by the music. A story that flows into an experience that a teacher at an arts school witnessed 2 of her students loss. A story on how being a woman is the hardest role in humanity but proves to be be strongest vessel in our lives. This is what we've created so enjoy!

Bulaq is a snapshot of a group of friends living in one of Cairo’s oldest slums, one that’s more interested in exploring the insides of their minds than examining their outside circumstances.
